NASCAR XFINITY Series – Coca-Cola Firecracker 250
July 1, 2017 – Daytona International Speedway
No. 33 Rain-X / Advanced Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro
Brandon Jones and the No. 33 Rain-X / Advanced Auto Parts Chevrolet finished 18th at Daytona International Speedway in the rain-delayed Firecracker 250 on Saturday afternoon. Jones moved to the back of the pack during the race’s first stage to avoid any trouble during the early laps. However, with the threat of rain looming during the race’s second stage, Jones drove to the front of the field placing second at the conclusion of the stage 2. Racing inside the top five, Jones and another competitor made contact on lap 248, setting off one of the race’s “big ones.” Despite damage to the front end and right-hand side of his car, Jones fought his way from the 29th to 18th position during the closing laps.
“We were doing everything right with this race. Our No. 33 Rain-X / Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet was excellent and able to do basically whatever I wanted on the track. After we got taken out from the front in the Stage 1 in the first two plate races this year, we decided to hang back for the first stage this time around. The weather delays changed our strategy for the rest of the race, but we adjusted and had a shot at the win before we got turned with just two laps left. I’m so proud of this team for pushing through and fixing up the car enough for us to pick up some spots and finish the race in the top-20. That’s real teamwork and what will help us make the playoffs.”
Jones currently sits 18th in NASCAR XFINITY Series driver point standings, just 55 points away from the XFINITY Series playoff cut line. Next, the series will travel to Kentucky Speedway on Friday, July 7 for the ALSCO 300. NBCSN will carry a live broadcast of the event beginning at 8 p.m. ET, while radio coverage will be provided by PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
