Race Ends Before It Begins With Contact Coming To The Green Flag

NASCAR XFINITY Series – ALSCO 300
July 7, 2017 – Kentucky Speedway
No. 33 AAA / Bob Sumerel Tire & Service Chevrolet Camaro

Brandon Jones and the No. 33 AAA / Bob Sumerel Tire & Service Chevrolet finished 40th at Daytona International Speedway in the rain-delayed ALSCO 300 on Saturday afternoon. Coming to the green flag to begin the race, the field bunched up in the lower groove with several cars making contact in an accordion-style pile-up. Jones’ teammate, Brendan Gaughan, was turned sideways in the incident to result in contact with the left front of the No. 33 AAA / Bob Sumerel Tire & Service Chevrolet. Jones limped his car back around to pit road where the No. 33 team discovered a broken spindle, thus ending their race without Jones completing a lap.

“I don’t know what it is, but we have had the worst luck this season. We had a great No. 33 AAA / Bob Sumerel Tire & Service Chevrolet Camaro during Friday’s practice, running third in that. I had also just finished the truck race on Thursday in the second position, so I felt very confident about our chances today. I felt like I had a good handle on this track. I think we could have really made something out of today after waiting through the rain all weekend long. Everyone stacked up around us on that initial start, and I had nowhere to go. With a broken tire spindle, our day was over before it even started.”

Jones currently sits 18th in NASCAR XFINITY Series driver point standings. Next, the series will travel to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 15 for the Overton’s 300. NBCSN will carry a live broadcast of the event beginning at 4 p.m. ET, while radio coverage will be provided by PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
