Charge at Iowa Speedway Slowed by Late-Race Caution

NASCAR XFINITY Series – American Ethanol E15 250
June 24, 2017 – Iowa Speedway
No. 33 ATLAS / Menards Chevrolet Camaro

Brandon Jones and the No. 33 ATLAS / Menards Chevrolet finished 23rd at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night. After racing toward the front of the field throughout the majority of the race, Jones was scored in the 7th position on lap 219 when he came down pit road for his final green flag stop. While on pit road an untimely caution trapped Jones and his RCR teammates a lap down to the leaders who had not yet been on pit road. Unable to take the wave around under caution, Jones was also unable to regain the lost lap in the remaining 21 laps.

“This finish does not reflect how our No. 33 ATLAS / Menards Chevy was running tonight. We had a great long-run car but needed more grip for drive into the corners to race up front with the leaders. It’s just terrible luck for us that there was a late-race caution right after we made our final pit stop of the night. We got trapped a lap down with our teammates and just ran out of time.”

Jones currently sits 17th in NASCAR XFINITY Series driver point standings, 65 points away from the XFINITY Series playoff cut line. Next, the series will travel to Daytona International Speedway on Friday, June 30 for the Firecracker 250. NBCSN will carry a live broadcast of the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET, while radio coverage will be provided by MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
