NASCAR XFINITY Series – Michigan 250
June 17, 2017 – Michigan International Speedway
No. 33 Nexteer Chevrolet Camaro
Brandon Jones and the No. 33 Nexteer Chevrolet finished ninth at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday afternoon. In a race full of highs and lows, Jones began the day making it to the final round of qualifying to secure the 12th starting position. After an uneventful first stage, Jones began the second stage sustaining damage to the right rear of his Chevrolet Camaro during a multi-car incident on lap 39. Spending the majority of stage two fighting his way back through the field, Jones secured valuable stage points at the conclusion of the races’ second stage, before going on to finish ninth in the event’s third and final stage. The result marked Jones’ first top-10 result in the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series season.
“That was a solid day for us. We needed that after the weeks we’ve had. We chased front turn all day on Friday in the No. 33 Nexteer Chevrolet Camaro, and we finally found it during the race. I was lacking rear grip for most of the day, which made the car very loose and tough to drive in traffic, but we kept at it. We got clipped in the right rear during the restart of Stage 2, but my guys fought hard to get me fixed up and back out on the track on the lead lap. They did a great job. We were even able to use pit strategy during that Stage to get back up through the field and finish sixth to earn valuable stage points. Overall, it was great day for the No. 33 team. I’m hopeful our momentum will continue upward from here.”
Jones currently sits 16th in NASCAR XFINITY Series driver point standings. Next, the series will travel to Iowa Speedway on Saturday, June 24 for the M&M’s 200. FS1 will carry a live broadcast of the event beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET, while radio coverage will be provided by MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
