NASCAR XFINITY Series – California 300
March 25, 2017 – Auto Club Speedway
No. 33 Chevy Truck Month Chevrolet Camaro
After qualifying eighth, Brandon Jones and the No. 33 Chevy Truck Month Chevrolet team finished 32nd at Auto Club Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Despite working to dial-in the handling throughout the race, Jones found his Chevy Truck Month Chevrolet to be too loose during the closing laps of the race. With less than 10 laps to go and running in the 12th position, the No. 33 Chevrolet snapped loose in traffic, resulting in damage to the left front to Jones’ machine. After making repairs on pit road, Jones finished the race in the 32nd position.
“Our No. 33 Chevrolet Truck Month Chevrolet Camaro just didn’t have the handling we needed last weekend at Auto Club Speedway. We chased it for most of the race, constantly needing more grip and more turn. Toward the middle of the race, we had it figured out pretty well running in the top 12. We were able to play some fuel strategy in the hopes that it would turn out like last year’s race and we could capitalize on others’ mistakes. Ultimately, the handling got too loose and it snapped going into Turn 1 with less than 10 laps to go from the 12th spot, causing us to have some pretty heavy front-end damage. My guys worked hard to get me back out there and we were able to finish the race, just not in the position we deserved.”
Jones currently sits 13th in NASCAR XFINITY Series driver point standings. After an off-weekend, the NASCAR XFINITY Series will stop at Texas Motor Speedway for the My Bariatric Solutions 300 on Saturday, April 8. FOX will carry a live broadcast of the event beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET, while radio coverage will be provided by PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
