NASCAR XFINITY Series – O’Reilly AP Challenge
November 5, 2016 – Texas Motor Speedway
No. 33 South Point Chevrolet Camaro
Brandon Jones and the No. 33 South Point team finished 19th at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. After starting in the 11th position, Jones found himself trapped a lap down early in the race when the caution flag was displayed shortly after he made a green flag pit stop. The South Point team continued to fight to regain their track position, but luck was not on their side throughout the 200-mile event. By the time the checkered flag waved, Jones was scored in the 19th position.
“We had a great South Point Chevrolet all weekend long, but we just could not catch a break from the drop of the green flag. On the initial start they checked up ahead of me and I was hit from behind at the start-finish line. That damaged the left rear of the car and we had to come to pit road under the first caution to fix that. It felt like we would lose a lap, fight back to get it back and then lose it again trying to fight your way back up there. You just had to weave through the slower cars back in the back in the pack. I feel like we had a 10th-place car today, but we just couldn’t catch any luck. We expected to be much better today, but especially based on how well we did in practice and qualifying. We didn’t do anything wrong, we just never caught a break to be in the right place at the right time. My goal now is to win one of these last two races and finish out the year strong.”
With just two races remaining in the 2016 season, the XFINITY Series travels to Phoenix Raceway for the Ticket Galaxy 200 on Saturday, November 12. NBCSN will broadcast the race live at 7:30 p.m. ET, while radio coverage will be provided by MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
