NASCAR XFINITY Series – Homestead 300
November 19, 2016 – Homestead-Miami Speedway
No. 33 Rain-X/Advanced Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro
Brandon Jones and the No. 33 Rain-X/Advanced Auto Parts team finished 15th at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday afternoon. After placing within the top six during both practice sessions, Jones secured the 10th starting position for the 300-mile XFINITY Series’ season finale at the 1.5-mile speedway. After showing speed during the opening laps, the No. 33 team sustained a pit road penalty for a loose wheel. Focusing on maintaining track position as best they could, Jones rejoined the lead lap after being named the ‘lucky dog’ during the lap 126 caution period. Climbing back inside the top 10 during the closing laps, Jones once again lost valuable track position when the outside line had a slow restart inside 10 laps to go. With his momentum broken while restarting 10th, Jones fell to 15th in the final running order.
“I felt like we had a pretty solid rookie season in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. We always want to be better than we were the previous week, and tonight we should have been better. We had a fast Rain-X/Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet. Crew chief Nick Harrison and the entire No. 33 crew worked hard on this Chevy all week long. It was definitely one of our better 1.5-mile cars this year. This track is tough, but we have a really solid notebook for next season. We’re going to come back next year and be that much better. I can’t thank all of our partners enough for the support this season. They have been great to work with each and every week.”
Jones will return to Richard Childress Racing to once again compete for the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship. The season will kick off at Daytona international Speedway on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
